Overview
Element K Workshops are one or two week, online instructor-led classes that
teach an applied skill in five, step-by-step lessons. Theyre ideal
if you don't have time to commit to Element K's four, six or eight
week classes, or if you aren't sure if you're ready to learn a
particular skill or plunge into an entire curriculum path.
Access to this feature may not be part of your subscription. If you cannot see this feature on the site, ask your administrator about feature availability.
Workshops generally don't require a textbook. If a textbook is
required, you'll see the textbook listed in the requirements section
when you register for the workshop in the Course Catalog.
Like other Element K online instructor-led courses, Element K Workshops are
developed and taught by a subject-matter expert. A Element K sysop is on hand
to moderate the message board and answer support questions.
Element K Workshop lessons appear each day on the Element K Workshop
home page, which exists outside the Element K workshop message board
"classroom". Students read the daily lesson, then post assignments and
questions related to the daily lesson in the classroom message board for the
instructor to answer and other students to comment on.
Each workshop includes:
   |
Five daily lessons and assignments. |
   |
Two live chats with your class and instructor. |
   |
A class poll. |
   |
Instructor-recommended resources such as books, Web sites,
and articles that further explore your class subject. |
   |
A glossary of key terms related to the subject. |
   |
Some workshops also include free downloadable files or software. |
Workshops are free to all Element K members.
How to attend a Element K Workshop
1. |
Complete today's lesson on the home page (posted daily at 12:01 a.m EST, 17:01 GMT)
Each day, return to the workshop home page to read that
day's lesson. You can expect to spend 30 to 60 minutes
completing each day's assignment. If there are any live
chats or quick polls scheduled, you'll see an announcement
on the workshop home page. |
 |
2. |
Post questions/comments about today's lesson in the class message board
If there are any assignments, or you have a question about that day's lesson,
you communicate with the instructor and other students by posting a message in
the classroom message board. Please read through other student questions in the
message board before posting your question, as instructor may well have
already answered a student with a similar question. |
 |
3. |
Check the class message board for instructor responses
If you've posted a note in the classroom the day before, go to the
class message board to see the instructor's response. |
 |
4. |
Final two days: Review in the class message board (no daily lessons posted)
The workshop lessons are complete for the final two days of class. On the final
day, you can only review comments and see the final responses to your message.
You shouldn't expect to get a reply from an instructor, sysop or student because
the workshop classroom message board will close at midnight EST (5:00 GMT) on the final
day. |
 |
5. |
View instructor's resources on the home page
If you like, return to the workshop home page to review other resources
related to your topic (more Element K classes, tutorials, ZDNet articles, ZD Journal
articles, etc.) that your instructor has prepared for you. You can also pick up
your Element K certificate of completion. |
 |
6. |
Register for more Element K Workshops in the Course Catalog
