Locating Reference Books

Browse Reference Books

You can browse for books by category using the browse function. Browsing lets you view a list of books with related content relevant to your search, without having to specify criteria such as title or author's name. For additional information on refining your search see Search Tips. When browsing books, an intermediate page will display. This is where you select the book category you want to browse in. To browse for reference books by category: Click the Browse by Category link under the Browse Reference Books section. Select the category in which you want to browse for related books by clicking the respective link. If you need additional help, please go to Additional Reference Information.

Results of Browsing Reference Books

The results of browsing are grouped in book listings consisting of 10 books each. The total number of books being browsed is shown at the top of each page. You can navigate through the book listings using the Next 10 (takes you to the next group of 10 books) and Previous 10 (takes you to the previous group of 10 books) links.The browse results that display are dependent on the category that you select. The following information displays for each book: Title - Click this link to go to the table of contents page for a book in the listing. Author Copyright owner and year - Click this link to display a listing of all copyright owners of reference books and how a book may be purchased. Note To select the book category to browse on, click the Browse by Category link. If you need additional help, please go to Additional Reference Information.

Search for Reference Books

You can search for books using a word or phrase with the search function. Locate books you already know of by searching on the title, the author's name, publisher's name or the book serial number (ISBN). You can also go to Search Tips for tips on searching and the results different searches will produce. To search for reference books: Click the text box in the Search Books box. Type the word or phrase that you want to search for. Select the radio button next to Title to search the title, author's name, publisher's name, or ISBN; or the radio button next to Titles and Content to include the entire book contents in the search. Note: If you are doing a search of previous search results, the radio buttons will read New Search and Append to Previous Search. Click the Search button to display the search results. Note If you are using the search feature from the left navigation bar, click the down arrow in the drop-down box and select Reference Books. Then click the title or titles and content radio button. Results of Searching Reference Books

When book listings are presented as a result of searching Reference Books, books are ordered according to overall search relevance (High, Medium, or Low), with the most relevant books listed first. Within the same overall search relevance, books are sorted alphabetically by title. The hits within the book matching the search will be listed by the percentage relevance of the hit. You can navigate through the entire search results listing using the Next 10 (takes you to the next group of 10 books matching the search criteria) and Previous 10 (takes you to the previous group of 10 books matching the search criteria) links. The search results that display are dependent on the search criteria that you select. The following information displays for each book: Number of matches and the search criteria used to generate the listing The overall search relevance of the book (High, Medium, Low) Note: The relevancy is based on how relevant the entire book is based on the word or phrase searched for. Title - Click this link to go to the table of contents page for a book in the listing. Author Copyright owner and year - Click this link to display a listing of all copyright owners of Reference Books books and how a book may be purchased. Brief Book Summary List of linked search "hits" within the book, by section,along with the relevancy percentage of the hit. Note: The relevancy percentage indicates how relevant the topic is based on the word search performed. Notes Click the Table of Contents link to view a page of the main book sections in which the search hits are located. Click the Top Search hits link to display all search hits in the book.
